Embrace What Comes For Happiness

Life’s kind of a bit chaotic and crazy sometimes. With so much going on and happening around you, isn’t it easy to wonder if something will go your way? When I went for a run this past Sunday, I was expecting a nice and sweaty run and coming home exhausted and taking a nap. What I got instead was a strained calf muscle and a nice Walking Dead limp. When I did P90X 5 years ago, I didn’t imagine that I’d rupture a disc in my lower spine.

There’s many things that are going to happen to you in your life. You’ll get passed up for a promotion, that person won’t call you back or give you any communication, you’ll get injured, sick, people will come and go from your life. As individuals on this planet, we don’t have a lot of control over the things that happen around us and especially on this planet, like the weather. With such little control, how can we be happy?

I think a great way to be happy is to embrace everything that happens. You still have a great deal of control in your life. Every thought you think, whether or not you exercise, how much time and effort you put into your work, who you talk to, how much courage you show – these are all things that you can do and aren’t dependent on anyone.

I think the gift of happiness comes to those who live a life going after what they want knowing that they might not get it and that things might not work out at all. It takes a great amount of courage to go for something and still be happy if you don’t get it. In a way, failing and rejection in your efforts are gifts because they enhance you each and every time with strength and the ability to keep going when things don’t work out.

I look at life as something each and every day with new things thrown at me. They may be challenges from work, unmet expectations, illness, injury – whatever it is, it is what is on the docket for the day and I accept it willingly and with strength. I feel at peace right now in my life, knowing that I can control much about myself and the rest is what life decides to present to me in the journey :)
